I do not know how to trigger the initial installation window manually. This is not shown since this laptop was used for testing after I uninstalled the driver before making the guide.
Download Xbox One Controller Drivers For Pc
If you are using the Model 1790 (Slim) Xbox One wireless receiver, you must use the following driver: Xbox - Net - 7/11/2017 12:00:00 AM - 1.0.46.1.
Plug your Xbox Wireless Receiver into your PC. If the installation works, no work is needed. If it fails, proceed to Step 2.
Open Device Manager. The best way to do this on Windows 10 is to right click the Start Menu and select Device Manager.
Locate the Other Devices section. Without a driver installed, the receiver will be found here.
Double click XBOX ACC and verify your error code is Code 28. Click Update Driver and you will see a window with two options.
Before manually installing the driver, try selecting Search automatically for updated driver software. Install the driver manually if this fails.
Note: If this link does not work, search Xbox Wireless. Go to the Microsoft Update Catalog website to download the driver. Select the following driver: Microsoft driver update for Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows (18.31.1.34) and download it. Unzip the .cab folder with 7Zip.
Select Browse my computer for driver software.
Locate the folder where the driver is downloaded, and select Copy address as text. Paste this location into the box under Search for drivers in this lcoation:.
Click Next and install the driver.
To verify the driver was installed correctly, check if the receiver shows up under Network Adapters. If the driver was installed correctly, this is where the receiver will be found.

A green light on the receiver indicates that the unit is working.

Step 2: Install the Xbox gaming receiver software
If you have the installation disc that came with your Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver, you can install the software from that disc. If you don’t have the disc, you can install the software by downloading it online.
Install using the installation CD:
Insert the installation disc into the CD or DVD drive of your computer. If the setup program doesn’t automatically start, browse to your CD or DVD drive and run the setup program.
Follow the steps to install the software.
Note You might be prompted to restart your computer after the installation is complete.

Go to the Software Downloads section of the Microsoft Hardware website.
In the Search for download field, type 'Xbox' and select Gaming as the product type.
Select Xbox 360 Wireless Controller for Windows as the product (this is the software for the wireless gaming receiver).
Select the version of Microsoft Windows you’re using on your computer, select your operating system language, and then select Download.
Select Run.
The Xbox 360 Accessories setup program installs the necessary files to your computer.

Step 3: Connect the Xbox 360 wireless controller to your computer
Turn on the Xbox 360 wireless controller by pressing and holding the Guide button .
On the receiver, press the connect button, which is a circular button located near the middle of the receiver. The light will flash green.
